Te Haeata/The Opportunity
We are seeking a hard-working, talented and motivated Senior Land Advisor to join our Land & Implementation team. We are looking for someone with at least a couple of years Crown Land experience and has completed the full process for treaty settlements through to instructing for Bills and deeds.
The Senior Land Advisor is responsible for:
- providing expert technical and policy advice to negotiation teams on land issues to ensure that all resulting settlement components can be effectively implemented
- may be involved in investigation other matters relating to land that have been identified after settlement
- training and guiding the work of land advisors on settlements
Ō pūkenga/Skills and Experience
The successful candidate is likely to have many of the following:
- relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience eg. Law degree
- significant experience in working with Crown Land
- technical legal skills to critically review draft bills and deeds of settlement
- knowledge of property law and practice
- experience leading, coaching and mentoring others
- strong written and verbal communication skills
- able to relate to a wide range of people at all levels, build effective networks across and within organisations, and influence outcomes
- knowledge of Treaty of Waitangi issues, both historical and contemporary
- demonstrated ability to work effectively with Māori and across agencies to achieve results
- solid understanding of public sector systems and processes

Our organisational whakapapa traces back through Te Arawhiti – The Office for Māori Crown Relations (2019-2025), the Office of Treaty Settlements (1995-2019) and to the Treaty of Waitangi Policy Unit formed in 1989. Utu ā-tau/Salary
The appointing salary for this role will be between $98,208 and $127,683 based on skills and experience.
